mangling
Technique for straightening wrinkled fabric fibers by using two rollers heated to a certain temperature by pulling the fabric between the hot rollers. An occupation that deals with the treatment of canvas and textiles made of hemp, flax, and cotton using a mangle, located in a separate building – a mangle room. In areas with developed canvas production (Orava, Spiš), it was in the hands of wealthy peasant or artisan families (millers, dyers). The first mangles were built in Orava in the 1820s with the permission of the estate.
